Privacy Policy

Short version: we collect as little as possible, we don’t sell anything to anyone, and we don’t
track you around the internet. There is no Google Analytics on this site, no advertising pixel, and
no profiling. If you email us or sign up for updates, we keep your email so we can reply or send
those updates, and nothing else happens to it.

Who we are

Modular Music School publishes music technology teaching resources for schools. This website is
modularmusicschool.com.

For UK data protection law, we are the data controller for the personal information described on
this page. You can reach us at modularmusicedu@gmail.com.

What we collect, and why

If you fill in a form on this site

The sign-up form on our home page asks for your name and email address. We use them to send you
updates about new resources, and to reply if you’ve asked us something.

• Why we’re allowed to: your consent, which you give by submitting the form.
• How to stop: every email has an unsubscribe link, or email us and we’ll remove you. It takes one
  reply, and we don’t ask why.

If you email us

We keep the email, your address, and whatever you chose to tell us, so that we can answer and so we
have a record if the same question comes back.

• Why we’re allowed to: our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us, or performance
  of a contract if you’re already a customer.

If you leave a comment

Comments on this site record your name, email address, IP address and browser user-agent, which is
how WordPress works by default. Your email isn’t published. The IP address and comment content are
checked by an anti-spam plugin.

When you buy a resource

We never see your card details. Purchases are handled by a payment provider acting as merchant of
record, and by the marketplaces (Tes, Teachers Pay Teachers) where you buy there instead. They take
the payment, handle the tax, and send us only what we need to know you bought something — typically
your name, email address and what you ordered.

Each of those companies has its own privacy policy, and it governs what they do with your payment
information. Ours doesn’t, because that data never reaches us.

Automatically, when you visit

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs — IP address, page requested, time, browser — for
security and to keep the site working. This is ordinary and unavoidable for any website.

• Why we’re allowed to: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and available.

Who else handles your information

We use a small number of suppliers, each of which processes some data on our behalf:

• Hostinger — hosting, server logs, and the Reach email tool that powers our sign-up form and
  mailing list.
• Adobe Fonts (Typekit) — serves the fonts this site is set in. Loading a font means your browser
  contacts Adobe’s servers, so Adobe receives your IP address. We send them nothing else.
• Our anti-spam plugin — checks form submissions and comments so we aren’t buried in spam.
• Payment providers and marketplaces — as described above, when you buy something.

We don’t sell, rent or trade your information, and we don’t share it with anyone for advertising.

What we don’t do

• No Google Analytics, or any other analytics package.
• No advertising or social media tracking pixels.
• No profiling, and no automated decision-making.
• No selling or sharing of mailing lists.

If that ever changes — and adding basic analytics is the most likely change — we’ll update this page
and say so at the top.

Cookies

This site sets very few cookies. WordPress sets one if you leave a comment, so the form remembers your
details next time, and our caching plugin may set one to serve pages faster. Logging in to the admin
area sets session cookies, which only affects us.

Because we run no analytics or advertising, we don’t set tracking cookies, which is why you aren’t
being asked to accept any.

How long we keep things

• Mailing list: until you unsubscribe, or until we’ve had no engagement from you for two years, at
  which point we remove you.
• Emails: up to three years, so we can pick up an old thread.
• Purchase records: six years, because UK tax law requires it.
• Comments: indefinitely, unless you ask us to delete one.
• Server logs: short-term, per our host’s retention settings.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

• Show you what we hold about you.
• Correct anything that’s wrong.
• Delete it, where we’re not legally required to keep it.
• Stop using it for a particular purpose, including marketing.
• Hand it over in a portable format, or send it to someone else.

Email modularmusicedu@gmail.com and we’ll deal with it within one month. There’s no charge, and you
don’t need to explain why.

If you think we’ve handled your information badly, you can complain to the Information
Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d rather you told us first so we can put
it right, but it’s your call and you don’t have to.

Children

This site is aimed at teachers, not pupils. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under
16. Our resources are used with students in classrooms, but they’re used by the teacher — students
never interact with this website, and we never receive student data.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything meaningful, we’ll update the date below and note what changed. We won’t quietly
start doing something this page says we don’t.
